National Breast Cancer Awareness

Via

October is national breast cancer awareness month and it is a very meaningful cause to me because my mother-in-law has battled and won breast cancer twice now.  She is one of the bravest people I know and we are so proud of her for overcoming this terrible disease.  Having to go through the surgery, chemotherapy and radiation is not only physically hard on you, but it can really cause a financial strain as well.
My mother-in-law was fortunate enough to get some help from the pharmaceutical companies to offset the costs of the expensive medications that she needed and I pitched in with donations from jewelry sales.  While I feel that donations to cancer research are important so that we can one day find a cure, I think it is equally important to support the people that are currently fighting the battle of their lives.

Below is a list of organizations that are dedicated to spreading awareness, helping those currently battling breast cancer, or working to find a cure:

BreastCancer.org is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing reliable information about breast cancer

National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to saving lives through early detection and providing mammograms to those in need

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is one of the most well-known organizations that is leading the fight against breast cancer with ground-breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs all over the globe

Avon Breast Cancer Crusade supports women and men affected by breast cancer by funding programs that enable patients to access quality care as well as provides research grants to help find a cure

You can also shop to help find a cure or support someone that is currently battling breast cancer in the following ways:

The Pink Shop at Macy's gives back to causes devoted to awareness, education and research in the fight against breast cancer

Avon Pink Ribbon Products where net profits are donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade

Etsy sellers supporting the cause:

Pink crocheted fingerless gloves by CrochetDelights1 with a portion of the sale going towards Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Save the tatas aluminum bracelet by ChrisClosetCreations - all proceeds are going to the shop owner's sister who is fighting breast cancer

Handpainted cherry blossom phone purse by Derilyn with 10% of the purchase price going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation

Japanese chiyogami paper bead earrings by PrettyKiku with 50% of the purchase price being donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation

There are so many great ways to help support the fight.  This is only a small sampling of the ways that you can contribute.  I hope to post more about the ways that I have found to support this great cause before the end of the month and if anyone else knows of great organizations or individuals that are in need of support, please share them in the comments!

Thanks!

Michelle
